A Mountain of Anime News Dropped Over the Holidays

The Yuletide season provide a multitude of activities far superior than checking the updates: opening presents, feasting on holiday treats, and employing deep breathing to not arguing with relatives. Hopefully you managed to enjoy all these things and more. That said, the entertainment world doesn't take a break, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. A slew of exciting news items surfaced over the holidays, and just in case you overlooked any, here is a compilation of the most exciting bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Is Set to Continue (Come 2027)

Perhaps the most shocking revelation, the notorious disaster that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to stop the series' continuation. The show will be back with a subsequent part in 2027—so far away they might as well have labeled it season 4. Even more shocking, animation studio J.C. Staff will remain in charge. At least this time, director Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the start, which could be taken as a hopeful indicator. However, the key visual for the second cour is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This leads one to believe that, by now, they are probably trolling the fans.

Ruri Dragon Is Set to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has forged a reputation for being an elite animation studio, making its mark not just for the high caliber of its output but for the fair treatment of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had never worked on an anime based on a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, perhaps the most famous magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became widespread acclaim when it launched in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the author's health issues. When it returned with a lighter schedule, the series showed it still retained the fans' affection and enthusiasm, and now the community is overjoyed about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel Now in the Works

Kingdom is the top-selling, long-running Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only recently got an English release, but the anime has been airing for years, and season 6 was yet another excellent entry. It turns out that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been revealed as currently being made, and it will probably premiere in 2026.

Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

One more studio renowned for the excellent quality of its projects, Science Saru has delivered masterpieces of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the real historical figure of Fatima, an influential woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and intriguing visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my watchlist.

The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Second Season

Right after the release of the final episode of the first season, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a sequel. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific premiere date has yet to be revealed.
